VHL Teacher Code of Conduct
Version 2026-10
VHL exists to help children learn safely. Every teacher agrees to these rules before applying, and they apply to every lesson, message and payment.
Keep everything on VHL
- Teach, message and take payment only through VHL. Never ask a student or parent to pay you directly.
- Do not share or ask for phone numbers, emails, home addresses or social-media accounts.
- Do not move a student to WhatsApp, Zoom, Google Meet or any other app.
Protect children
- Many VHL students are under 18. Behave as you would in a school classroom, at all times.
- Never arrange to meet a student in person, and never contact a student outside VHL.
- Never send or request personal photos, and never discuss personal or romantic topics.
- Parents and guardians may watch any lesson. Classes may be recorded for safety and quality.
- Report any safeguarding concern about a child to VHL immediately.
Be professional
- Teach from a quiet, decent space, dressed as you would for school.
- Be on time. Repeatedly missing classes leads to refunds for students and penalties for you.
- Teach only subjects and levels you are qualified for, and be honest on your profile.
- Treat every student with patience and respect. No insults, threats or humiliation.
Verification and checks
- Your ID, certificates and referee will be checked before you are verified.
- VHL may run background checks with your consent, and may re-check at any time.
- False documents or information lead to permanent removal and may be reported to the authorities.
What happens if rules are broken
- VHL may suspend or remove a teacher at any time to protect students.
- Serious safeguarding breaches are zero-tolerance and may be reported to the police.
